78km high-speed railway tunnel under construction in southern Italy

In mid August 2022, several railway tunnels in southern Italy began to enter the construction stage. Among them, the total length of hirpini orsara high-speed railway tunnel section is 27km, and the length of orsara bovino high-speed railway tunnel section is about 10km. These two tunnels are important parts of the upgrading of Naples Bari railway network.
In addition to the above two tunnels, Taormina giampilieri tunnel section and Fiumefreddo Taormina / Letojanni tunnel section, which are 25.2km and 15km long respectively, are also started at the same time. These two tunnels are ancillary works for upgrading Palermo Messina railway network.
After the completion of these four projects, it is expected that the public and freight transportation in southern Italy will be greatly strengthened. The project is expected to be completed around 2025.
